My Buying Guide on ‘Ruger 38 Lcr Holster’

I recently purchased a Ruger 38 Lcr and one of the first things I knew I needed was a good holster to carry it in. After doing some research and trying out a few options, I have put together this buying guide to help anyone else in the market for a Ruger 38 Lcr holster.

Types of Holsters

The first thing to consider when shopping for a holster is what type will best suit your needs. There are several different types of holsters available, including:

– Inside-the-waistband (IWB)
– Outside-the-waistband (OWB)
– Shoulder holsters
– Ankle holsters
– Pocket holsters

For my Ruger 38 Lcr, I found that an OWB holster was the most comfortable and convenient option for me. It allows for easy access and draws without compromising on comfort or concealment.

Material

The next thing to consider is the material of the holster. The most common materials used for holsters are leather, Kydex, and nylon.

Leather holsters are durable and offer a classic look, but they can be bulky and require some breaking in before they become comfortable to wear.

Kydex holsters are lightweight and provide excellent retention, but they can be noisy when drawing or reholstering your firearm.

Nylon holsters are affordable and lightweight, but they may not offer as much protection as leather or Kydex.

After trying out different options, I found that a leather/kydex hybrid holster was the best fit for my Ruger 38 Lcr. It provided the durability and retention of kydex with the comfort of leather.

Retention

Retention refers to how securely your firearm is held in the holster. It’s important to find a holster with proper retention so that your gun stays in place while you’re moving around. There are different levels of retention available, such as passive retention (using friction) or active retention (using a mechanism like a thumb break).

I personally prefer active retention for my Ruger 38 Lcr since it provides an extra layer of security while carrying my firearm.

Comfort

Comfort is key when it comes to choosing a holster. After all, you’ll likely be wearing it for extended periods. Look for features such as padded backing or adjustable cant angles to ensure maximum comfort while carrying.

I found that an adjustable cant angle was crucial for me since it allowed me to find the perfect positioning for my Ruger 38 Lcr based on my body shape and preferred method of carry.

Concealment

For those who plan on carrying their Ruger 38 Lcr concealed, finding a holster with good concealment capabilities is essential. Look for options that offer low profile designs and proper fitment to your body shape.

Personally, I found that an OWB pancake-style holster with adjustable cant angles gave me the best concealment results while still being comfortable enough for all-day wear.

Price

Last but not least, price is always something to consider when making any purchase. While there may be more affordable options out there, it’s important not to compromise on quality when it comes to something as important as carrying your firearm safely and securely.

After trying out various options at different price points, I decided that investing in a high-quality leather/kydex hybrid OWB holster was worth it for my Ruger 38 Lcr.

In conclusion, finding the right holster for your Ruger 38 Lcr ultimately comes down to personal preference. By considering factors such as type, material, retention, comfort, concealment capabilities and price, you should be able to find an option that meets all your needs. Happy shopping!
